It is difficult to spot the issues if you are not very familiar with the issues. In fact, it is easier to sport mistakes made by others than spotting your own mistakes ;-)
It takes time to study and remember all the issues before reviewing a batch of photos. Please do spend the time. And then maybe you can also help other local guides by checking their photos also.
This Google Sheet can make it easier to tally issues. Sums and percentages are calculated automatically. All you need to do is to mark checkbox every time you see an issue. Decide how many photos you want to review. Scroll down to that photo in the contribution list of the newest photos. And work your way back to the top. For each photo mark the issues you see.
The yellow issues are not super easy to spot, so you may want to start by checking for the green and blue issues only. If you need more than 30 checkboxes for an issue there is an 'overflow' column (not sown below) in the sheet that will allow you to free up some checkboxes.
I recommend using two devices. You can also print the tally sheet.
First, take a moment to rejoice the issues that were not found in your photos.
Circle the 3 mistakes you make most often. Did you expect this result?
Go back and reread the relevant issues pages to check if you agree with the issues and what tips are available for fixing these issues.
What issues would be easiest for you to improve on?
Decide which issues you want to try to eliminate or improve on. It's best to focus on only 1 or max 3 issues at a time.
Then after advancing your skills you can use the tally sheet one more time to see your progress.
If you like to systematically track your progress over time this second Google sheet is here for you. Save your copy from this link.
There is room for 5 self-evaluations. You enter your data in the light green cells and all the grey cells are calculated automatically for you. Notice that your number and percent of hidden pics and your average view count is also included.
If you tally the issues on paper this sheet will help you calculate the percentages.
To the left, you can indicate how you want to improve.
Later when you have improved and make a second tally you can easily see your improvements and where you then need to focus to keep advancing your skills as a Google Maps photographer.
The Issues Tally Sheet and the Progression Card can be used when you evaluate your own photos and when you help other local guides by evaluating their photos.
Currently I'm developing a service where local guides can request a very detailed report about their 100 newest photos. In the report I will detail what issues I see in each of your photos. And I will calculate the indicators and present a sorted list of your issues. Your photos will be includes in the report, so you can easily explore and scrutinize each issue.
Please reach out to me if you are interested in testing this new service. Unfortunately, I don't expect this service to be free since it takes time to manually review one hundred photos of yours.
Now you have almost reached the end of this tutorial. All that is left is the Recap and Final Exam. Just click/tap "Suggested next page" below.
